내가 영국군이 전멸한 고지(Gloster Hill)에 대하여 관심을 갖게 된 것은 2004.4월 설마리 계곡근처를 지나다가 우연하게도 영국 재향군인들이 그들의 동료에 대한 추모식을 개최하고 있는 장면을 본 뒤부터였다. I have got interested in Gloster Hill where British soldiers were completely destroyed in the valley of Solma-ri in Apr. 1951 since I saw, by chance, the memorial ceremony in which the British veterans participated. 왜 이 노인들이 멀리 바다건너 한국까지 와서 추도식을 갖는가라는 의문점이 생기면서 관련 서적과 정보를 찾기 시작했다. I had questions why these old veterans crossed the ocean from UK to Korea for their memorial ceremony and started to collect the information and books about the Gloster Hill and Imjin battles. 그리고 2005.4 다음 해 추도식에서 한 영국군(Bainbridge)의 유골이 적성의 중성산 고지(그로스터 대대 A중대가 젙투하다 전멸된 고지)에 생존한 동료에 의해 뿌려지는 장면을 목격하였고 미8군 군악대와 인근 군부대의 지원하에 정중하게 예식이 진행되는 것을 매년 목격하게 되었다. I and my wife kicked off in 22 April 2018 to explore the Imjin battle place, specially the UR crossing point.  The day was the first day when the British soldiers fought against Chinese onslaught during the Spring Offensive in April 1951. Ironically, the first day of British Imjin battle is same day of my father memorial day who passed four(4) years ago in 2014. When my father was alive, I visited this Imjin river and Gloster hill with him to commemorate the foreign sacrifices. On this special day, I and my wife could have chance to explore the place I have wanted to explore. Because the current road condition, it is difficult to approach the point described in the book Last Round written by Andrew Salmon, based on the living veterans. There is bridge between Kawol-ri and Majeon-ri where the Belgium Battalion station was fighting to protect the hinge point of Hantan and Imjin river vital to maintain the US Army Div. 3 and British Regiment defensive line. I took the subway, bounding for Yongmun on last Thursday, 4 April, 2018, at Cheongnyang-ni station. I did not know there was two(2) options for going Jipyong as one by the train of Kyungeui Joongang Line and the other was subway I took. I took one(1) hour to arrive at Yongmun station and walked to locate the bus station where I could board for Jipyong-ni. I walked for fifteen minutes to arrive the small bus terminal and waited for the bus for Jipyong-ni and final Yoju city crossing the Nam-Han River after ticketing. One country woman, sitting on the bench, informed me of the bus arrival when she heard “Is it going to Jipyong?” I asked a bus driver. I arrived at Jipyong for about thirty minutes by bus and went to Jipyong station by walk.
