While never willing to bow to a tyrant, our forefathers were always willing to get to their knees before God. When catastrophe threatened, they turned to God for deliverance. When the harvest was bountiful the first thought was thanksgiving to God.

Prayer is today as powerful a force in our Nation as it has ever been. We as a Nation should never forget this source of strength. And while recognizing that the freedom to choose a Godly path is the essence of liberty, as a Nation we cannot but hope that more of our citizens would, through prayer, come into a closer relationship with their Maker.

화천 625 전적지 탐방과 닭갈비

전일 한글날 포함 연휴를 맞은 10 월 10 일 가을 하늘은 맑고 천명하였다 .  아마도 가장 좋은 계절을 맞았다 생각되어 집사람한테 차를 타고 바람을 쐬러 나가자 하였다 . 어제 김치를 담고 빨래를 하는 등 집안일을 마친 상태여서 집사람도 동의하여 춘천 북방 625 전적지 및 닭갈비를 먹으로 가기로 했다 . 오전 10 시 집에서 출발하였다 . 목적지는 춘천이었으나 1951 년 4 월 중공군 춘계대공세 때 격전지를 둘러 보기로 했다 . 주요 격전지는 미 해병 1 사단의 한 대대가 싸웠던 사창리와 북한강 사이의 Horseshoes Ridge, 화천 북방 고지 , 북한강 서안 , 국군 6 사단의 사창리 , 가평의 목동 등을 염두에 두고 출발하였다 . 그러나 서을 / 양양 ( 춘천 ) 간 고속도로가 막힐 것으로 생각되어 잠실철교를 건너 강변북로를 타고 남구리 IC 로 진입 구리 / 포천 고속도로를 탔다 . 이 도로는 지난 4 월 15 일 어머니 모시고 나왔다가 별내휴계소에서 나에게 심근경색이 와서 되돌아 갔던 아찔한 기억이 있었기에 다시 주행을 하는 것에 대해 남다른 감회가 있었고 주 하나님께 감사를 드릴 뿐이다 . 민락 IC 를 통과하여 축성령 터널을 통과하면서 625 때 북한군이 남침 시 서울을 방어하기 위한 전투에서 북한군 탱크를 최초로 격파한 지역임을 생각했다 . 한 40 분 달려 고속도로 종점인 신북 IC 를 빠져 나오자 마자 차들이 줄지어 서 있어 거북이 걸음이었다 . 운천을 거쳐 철원으로 가는 43 번 국도였다 . 포천방어벙커 이정표가 보이고 전에 도로를 따라 좀더 올라 가서 보았던 38 선 휴계소의 천변 방어요새도 생각이 났다 . 625 남침 때 최초 전투가 있었다는 만세교리 근처의 분기점에서 37 번 국도를 타고 동쪽 일동방향으로 달려 나가다가 이동을 거쳐 김화로 뻗혀 있는 47 번 국도를 갈아타고 다시 북쪽으로 달렸다 .   Navigation 에 화천을 찍어 놓아서인지 백운계곡으로 빠져 나오도...

Introduction The first day covered the place of Kongju like the Geomsan-dong village, Woogeumchi Battle Place, Kongju City Hall, Komnaru Tour Area, Kongsan Fortress, Wangchon Creek & Oya Bridge to explore the actions of the 34th Regiment of 24th US Army Division. The second day covered the place of Sejong like Tuman-ni, Yongdam-ni, Balsan-ni, the Kaehwa Mt., Riverside of the Keumnam Bridge, and Seongdeok-ni around the Duwoo Peak and the Sparrow Pass to explore the defensive actions of 19th Regiment. It was good to travel on Sunday and Monday, but there was a heavy traffic jam around the West Hanam IC and its lampway to Kangdong. It is needed to avoid the Kangdong lampway and preferably to the Hanam lampway or avoid the West Hanam IC. This travel for one-night and two-day costed us of 200,000 KRW half of which were for gas and hotel expenses.
