Always Be Faithful

We Koreans know well about the Korean War in regard of our fallen-out capital city, the Nakdong river battles, Incheon landing operation, January 4 th retreat, and cease fire negotiations etc. But some have not understood yet what did happen in the north after our U.N forces dashed through the 38 th latitude to unify Korea. So, I would introduce the battle of Jangjin(Chosin was indicated on military map) reservoir taken place 73 years ago, like this wintertime but much colder there around the reservoir with a stream of harsh wind in the northern Kaema highland.   For the introduction, I had referred to many information available on internet. This inaugural message was addressed in  February 1, 2023 on the site of KDVA(Korea Defence Veteran Association). I had an opportunity to join the association as an associate member in Aug. 15, 2023. The reason joining the KDVA has been caused by my lifetime value, don't forget your debt for anyone who pay for you, that surely be a guide post on my lifetime.  My parent in their nineties experienced the Korean war and knew who helped their country and them in the brutal war. I was born just after the war, as a baby boomer, and have undestood that help continued over 73 years, as I have taught and seen U.S. GIs and their families, military camps, protestant(puritan) missionaries and their churches and hospitals, JSA, and military exercises regulary carried out.   It has been known the first UN battle place is renovated in 5 Jul. 2020, three years ago. I had visited a couple of time, but it was my first visit for the memorial hall and its renowned peace park. Yesterday on Wednesday on 5 Jul. 2023 on the 73rd anniversary of the battle, I would like to visit there to remember the sacrifice of the Task Force Smith and their souls fallen down on this hill on the same day that day. From my house in Songpa-gu, Seoul, I and my wife drove my car on the highway of Yongin-Seoul and kept driving to arrive Dongtan lamp way. I passed through a downtown of Dongtan and tried to find the route for the monument, seeing the configuration of a front mountain and a national flag flagging over the range. I lost my way and found we were on the road where a city education office was seen on the eastern side of the monument hill.
